shake that ass (sit down)
2022, silicone, styrofoam, wood, approx. 60x40x30 cm
The sculpture "shake that ass (sit down)" was created alongside the experimental film "shake that ass (for me)." The title of both works is a direct quote from Eminem's 2006 club hit "Shake That." For me, these titles highlight the internalized violence against women that comes with the societal acceptance of offering one’s body—often for the pleasure of men.
The sculpture visualizes the objectification and hypersexualization of the female body, specifically the buttocks. In my exploration of this theme, I became increasingly aware of how often the butt is isolated from the rest of the body—a dehumanizing act that reduces the woman who owns it to nothing more than a fragmented object of desire. This separation is not just a visual phenomenon; it reflects a deeper cultural narrative in which women’s bodies are commodified, dismembered, and consumed.
